Step 1: Start with what’s free
RTÉ Player, Virgin Media Play and TG4 Player cost nothing and cover Irish news, drama, and a lot of live sport, including the biggest GAA games and the Six Nations. Most homes should have all three before paying for anything.

Step 2: Add only the paid services you’ll use
Most people don’t need more than two or three paid services at once. Work out what you actually watch, then pick the cheapest plan that covers it.

Step 3: Pick a device (if your TV needs one)
