Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data On Air Ireland (onairireland.ie) collects, why, and your rights regarding it, in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Who We Are
On Air Ireland is run by John Cunningham, Windgap, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland, who is the data controller for personal data collected through this site. You can contact the site administrator at admin@onairireland.ie.
What We Collect
Questions you email us — if you contact us (including through the Ask us page, which opens your own email app), we use your email address and message only to reply, and we delete them when they’re no longer needed. If we turn a question into a guide, we never include your name or details.
Email addresses — newsletter sign-ups are currently paused, and the site does not collect email addresses through any form. When the newsletter was running, if you subscribed, your email address is stored by our email provider, MailerLite, and used solely to send you our free guides and updates about new guides. We ask you to confirm your subscription by email (double opt-in), and every email has an unsubscribe link. We never sell or share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes.
Analytics data — we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (which pages are popular, general visitor numbers). This involves cookies — see the Cookies section below. We do not use this data to identify individual visitors personally.
Affiliate link clicks — when you click a product link on this site, the retailer (e.g. Amazon) may track that click to credit us with a referral commission if you purchase. This tracking is handled by the retailer’s own systems, not by us directly — see their own privacy policies for details on what they collect.
Cookies
This site uses cookies for:
- Analytics (Google Analytics) — only loaded after you accept cookies via the banner shown on your first visit
- Affiliate tracking — set by retailers (Amazon and others) when you click a product link, not by this site directly

Legal Basis for Processing
- Newsletter emails — your consent, given when you subscribe. You can withdraw it at any time.
- Replying to questions you email us — our legitimate interest in answering you.
- Analytics cookies — your consent, given via the cookie banner. Nothing is loaded unless you click Accept.
- Server logs kept by our host — our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and working.
International Transfers
Some of the services we use (Google, GitHub and some of MailerLite’s sub-processors) are based in the United States, so your data may be transferred outside the European Economic Area. These providers rely on safeguards recognised under GDPR, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
Third-Party Services We Use
- MailerLite — stores newsletter subscribers and sends our emails. See MailerLite’s privacy policy for how they handle data.
- Google Analytics — website analytics. See Google’s privacy policy for details.
- Amazon Associates and other affiliate programmes — product links on this site are affiliate links. See the retailer’s own privacy policy for their data practices.
- GitHub Pages — this site is hosted on GitHub Pages, which may log standard server access data (IP address, browser type) as part of normal web hosting.
Your Rights Under GDPR
You have the right to:
- Know what personal data we hold about you
- Request a copy of that data
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent (e.g. unsubscribe from the newsletter) at any time
- Object to or restrict how we use your data

Data Retention
Newsletter email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ standard retention settings.
